The Four Balearic Islands by Yacht from Valencia
Each island has its own character and charm.

Mallorca
The largest Balearic island offers dramatic mountain coastlines along the Serra de Tramuntana, the historic capital Palma with its stunning cathedral, and hundreds of hidden coves with crystal-clear water. Perfect for sailing, hiking, and cultural exploration.

Menorca
The quietest and most unspoilt of the Balearics. Menorca is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve with pristine beaches, ancient megalithic sites, and a charming capital Mahon with the second-largest natural harbour in the world.

Ibiza
Famous for its nightlife, Ibiza also offers a UNESCO-listed old town (Dalt Vila), stunning sunset beaches like Cala Conta, and the mystical Es Vedra rock formation. A perfect mix of party and paradise.

Formentera
The smallest and most exclusive Balearic island. Formentera is famous for its Caribbean-like beaches, turquoise waters, and laid-back atmosphere. Best reached by yacht from Ibiza (just 10nm).

Sailing Valencia to Balearic Islands — FAQ
Visiting all four Balearic Islands — Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza, and Formentera — in a single week is technically possible but quite ambitious, and we generally recommend focusing on two or three islands for a more relaxed and enjoyable experience. The challenge with a one-week grand tour is the sailing distances involved: Valencia to Ibiza is 95 nautical miles, Ibiza to Mallorca is 80 nautical miles, and Mallorca to Menorca is 30 nautical miles, meaning you would spend a significant portion of your charter in transit rather than exploring. For a one-week charter, our most popular routes focus on either the Ibiza-Formentera combination or the Mallorca-focused exploration. The Valencia-Denia-Ibiza-Formentera route is ideal for first-time visitors and gives you 4 to 5 full days of island exploration including the UNESCO old town of Ibiza, the legendary beaches of Formentera, and stunning sunset anchorages. The Mallorca-focused route takes you directly across to Palma and then around the island's diverse coastline from the dramatic Tramuntana mountains to the sheltered eastern coves. If you truly want to experience all four islands, we strongly recommend a two-week charter which allows a comfortable 3 to 4 days at each island with no rushing. Our 2-Week Grand Tour itinerary covers all four islands with overnight stops at the most beautiful anchorages and enough time to explore each island's unique character.
For families sailing the Balearic Islands from Valencia, Menorca and Formentera consistently stand out as the top choices, each offering a safe, relaxed, and child-friendly environment that parents and children both love. Menorca is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, which means its coastline is largely unspoilt with pristine beaches, clean shallow waters, and minimal commercial development. The southern coast of Menorca has dozens of stunning cala beaches with soft white sand, shallow turquoise water that is perfect for young children to paddle and swim safely, and natural shade from pine trees right down to the water's edge. Favourite family anchorages include Cala Macarella, Cala Turqueta, and Cala Mitjana. The historic capital Mahon has an excellent maritime museum, boat tours of the harbour, and family-friendly restaurants. Formentera is equally wonderful for families, offering some of the clearest water in the Mediterranean — the famous Ses Illetes beach has water so clear and shallow that you can wade 50 metres from shore, making it ideal for young children. The island has a laid-back, bohemian atmosphere with no high-rise buildings and very little traffic, creating a safe environment for older children to explore by bicycle. Both islands have calm, sheltered waters between them and nearby Ibiza, meaning sailing passages are short and gentle — rarely more than 1 to 2 hours between anchorages. Our skippers know the best family-friendly spots and can recommend routes that minimise sailing time and maximise beach time for families with younger children.
Marina berth booking is handled entirely by your skipper as part of the yacht charter service, so you do not need to worry about making reservations yourself. Your skipper has extensive experience with all marinas across the Balearic Islands and knows which ones to pre-book and which are easier to find on arrival. During high season from July to August, the most popular marinas such as Ibiza Town (Marina Botafoch), Palma de Mallorca, and Formentera's La Savina should be pre-booked to guarantee availability. Your skipper will arrange these reservations in advance as part of the charter planning process based on your agreed itinerary. For off-season sailing from May to June and September to October, most marinas have berths available on arrival and pre-booking is less critical, though it is still recommended for weekend nights at popular ports. An important point to note is that many of the most beautiful spots in the Balearic Islands are free anchorages rather than marinas — places like Cala Conta in Ibiza, Ses Illetes in Formentera, Cala Macarella in Menorca, and the calas along Mallorca's east coast. These anchorages are first-come-first-served and completely free, though some protected areas require an anchoring permit which costs approximately €5 to €15 per day. Your skipper will advise on the best mix of marina nights and anchorage nights to optimise your experience and budget. Marina fees vary considerably across the islands, from approximately €45 per night in smaller ports to €200 per night in premium marina locations during peak season.
If you hold a valid sailing licence or qualification, bareboat charters without a skipper are available for experienced sailors who want the freedom and satisfaction of navigating the Balearic Islands independently. To charter a yacht bareboat in Spanish waters, you need an ICC (International Certificate of Competence) or an equivalent nationally recognised sailing qualification such as the RYA Day Skipper, French Permis Hauturier, or Spanish PER. You will also need to demonstrate practical experience appropriate to the yacht size and the passages involved — the open-water crossing from Valencia to the Balearics requires genuine offshore competence. During the booking process, we will ask to see your qualifications and discuss your sailing experience to ensure the charter is appropriate and safe. For less experienced holders of day skipper qualifications, we may recommend a skippered charter or a hybrid arrangement where a professional skipper accompanies you for the initial crossing and then hands over for the island exploration. That said, the majority of our Balearic charter clients choose a skippered charter even if they have sailing qualifications. Having a professional skipper means you can fully relax and enjoy the holiday, benefit from local knowledge of the best anchorages, restaurants, and hidden spots, and have an expert navigator handling the open-water passages while you sleep or socialise. The skipper's daily rate is included in our standard charter prices, so there is no additional cost for the skippered option. Many experienced sailors tell us they appreciated having a skipper for the crossing and then took turns at the helm during the island-hopping sections.
We offer two provisioning options for your Balearic Islands yacht charter from Valencia: full pre-provisioning arranged by our team, or self-provisioning at each stop along the route. For the pre-provisioning service, simply share your food preferences, dietary requirements, favourite drinks, and budget with our team at least one week before departure. Our local provisioning partner will stock your yacht with everything you need — fresh produce, meats, seafood, dairy, snacks, soft drinks, beer, wine, spirits, and all cooking essentials — so it is ready and waiting when you board at the marina in Valencia. This service costs approximately €30 to €50 per person per day for standard provisions including breakfast ingredients, lunch supplies, snacks, and basic dinner ingredients, or €60 to €80 per person per day for premium provisions with quality wines, fresh seafood, charcuterie boards, and gourmet ingredients. Many clients choose pre-provisioning for the first 3 to 4 days and then re-stock at island supermarkets for the second half of their charter. For self-provisioning, Valencia has excellent supermarkets near the marina including Mercadona and Consum. Denia's daily market is wonderful for fresh produce if you stop there on day one. In the Balearics, Palma de Mallorca and Ibiza Town have well-stocked supermarkets, while smaller islands like Formentera have basic shops that are adequate for day-to-day needs. Your skipper can advise on the best provisioning stops and will help carry supplies from shore to the yacht using the dinghy. We provide a recommended provisioning checklist with quantities based on your group size and charter duration to make planning easy.
Weekly rates range from €3,500-€8,000 for a sailing yacht (38-50ft) and €6,000-€15,000 for a motor yacht or catamaran, depending on season and vessel size. This includes the boat and skipper. Provisioning, marina fees, and fuel are additional. Budget €200-300/day for extras.
In high season (July-August), popular marinas like Ibiza Town and Palma should be booked in advance. Off-season, you can usually find a berth on arrival. Many of the best spots in the Balearics are anchorages rather than marinas, and these are first-come-first-served.
Yes, we can arrange charters departing from Denia, Alicante, or Barcelona as well as Valencia. One-way charters between any Spanish Mediterranean ports are available. Contact us for pricing based on your preferred departure point.
We recommend the Valencia-Denia-Ibiza-Formentera route for first-timers. It offers the most iconic Balearic experiences: turquoise waters, sunset views, Dalt Vila old town, and the pristine beaches of Formentera. Plus, the crossing via Denia breaks the passage into manageable sections.
Winter charters (November-March) are available at significantly reduced rates. The weather is mild (15-20C) but unpredictable, so flexibility with dates is important. Winter is actually wonderful for sailing — empty anchorages, no crowds, and the Balearics have a completely different atmosphere with local festivals and quiet coastal towns.
